Sumo Bot Blog

Sumo Bot

We had to build a car from a kit that was given to our group. No instructions added, so we had to make most of the designs up. We were supposed to make a car-like structure and see if it can race down the hallway. The object was to make the turns arounnd the corners and see who achieves the best time. We used integrated battery to use on our project. Our project did not finish because it was very slow and Mr. Atkins said just to stop, but I believe we could have finished in under 10 minutes. If we were to redesign it, it would be lighter, shorter, and have the wheels straighter so they would move quicker and more efficiently.

Sophisticated Machines

Yo-yo by Joe Scotto

We had to build a sophisticated machine producing an optical illusion & angular momentum. My group and I decided to make a yo-yo with an optical illusion on each side of the yo-yo. We only had time to make one yo-yo, so we tried our best to make it work. Our yo-yo makes many different colors.

The results of our project: everything worked, the colors came out good. Our illusion came out great, it made a rainbow. The illusion looks cool when you spin the yo-yo.

If I would develop it further in any way, I would try to make the yo-yo thinner. Also we should have make it a little smaller and used different ropes. Maybe we could have changed up the illusion a little bit and made it cooler. A heavier string but a smaller base would be probably the best kind of yo-yo.

Faster Blog

Fastener Blog

Summary
The point of the lab was to put together two object while using fasteners. We are trying to make a object and use the fasteners we are assigned. Our fastener was magnets, which are a great fastener because it has the force that can bring two objects together. We made a man out of wood and magnets. We had to also use glue, but we were the only group that could use it because the magnets cannot stick to the wood without glue.

Results
It ended up coming out really good because the man stood up straight and the magnets didn't fall off or anything. The worst thing that got in our way was cutting the edges of the wood off. Some of them were cut wrong so it messed up our project. But in a way we fixed the situation. We ended up achieving our designated vision.

Analysis
Mostly all the groups were successful, but some needed some tweaking and needed more work. The one i liked the most was Matt, Nathan, and Rob's project. They made a very cool design with height and it was a good idea on how they used their fastener. If we had more time in our project we could of used more magnets but were were only given 12 which was enough but if we had more it would of been a better project.
